Another developmental milestone

Addy: Knock knock!

Miss C: Who's there?

Addy: A joke!

Up, up, and away

Addy: What's up there?

Me: Do you mean the light on the ceiling or are you talking about the sky?

Addy: In the sky.

Me: Well, there's birds and clouds and airplanes, and further up there are stars and the sun and the moon and the satellites and the space station.

Addy: Ooh, I wanna go to the space station. I can fly in a rocket and go visit the space station.

Alas, poor zinnias, we knew you well

The saga of the zinnias continues. After they sprouted (the second time), I moved them outside to the patio so that Addy could admire them and the cats couldn't eat them. Then it got cold again and I didn't move them back inside. Now we need new zinnias.

Budding seamstress

I recently got some lace-up cards for Addy (specifically these ones). OT said it would be a good way to work on fine motor skills. What she didn't realize was that it would also be a good "sewing" project for Addy to work on while Miss C does some cross stitching.

Feet!

Nora discovered her feet yesterday and thinks they are the most fascinating, beautiful things she has ever seen. Except for her hands; THOSE are just amazing to her.

Sing me a new song

In addition to her sweet little cooing songs, Nora has mastered... well, a horrible screeching sound. Something like a bird of prey might make. To call it unpleasant is an understatement.

No paci for this kid

Nora is officially a thumb sucker. She also "sings" very sweetly, sometimes lulling herself to sleep. So. Stinkin'. Cute!

That seems more accurate

We took Nora in for a well baby check-up last week and I was kind of puzzled when the pediatrician said she was 50th percentile on height since she's having to wear 12 month pants already. Our doctor's office just makes pencil marks on the exam table to mark the length and the poor girl was just waking up when we tried to stretch her out to check her length. So I stretched her back out before we left and saw, sure enough, she was about 3/4 inch longer than the original pencil marks. My curiosity got the better of me this morning so I actually remeasured her (fully awake) and looked up a growth chart online: 95th percentile.

Sounds like progress

We've been working on lots of standing with Addy since her surgery 6 weeks ago:

Most recently, I went ahead and took out the chest strap from the gait trainer so she could use it more like a walker:

The real lesson here: don't try to predict what Addy can and can't do. Let her try anything and everything and she'll surprise you every time!

Bless your pointy little heads

No less than 2 of our cats ate ALL of Addy's beautiful zinnia sprouts. I accidentally left the laundry room door open this evening and went back in later to find the poor flowers gnawed down to the dirt. So I did what any self-respecting mom would do in this situation: I planted the leftover seeds and will now cross my fingers that Addy won't ask about them for another week or so while we wait for them to sprout. And, more importantly, I put the planter up high on a shelf so that, when they finally DO sprout, the cats won't be able to munch on them.

Two thumbs up

We took Addy to see the surgeon for one last post-op check of her incisions. Everything looks good now, so we go back in 6 months for follow-up!

How big? So big!

Check-up day for Nora today: 14 pounds and 25 inches. We have the official thumbs up to start cereal now. Hooray for messes!
